Film Industry Is Changing Forever

Film Industry and Permanent Changes Afoot

FILM INDUSTRY KILLING ITSELF

I read this article on the film industry - "Entertainment Industry Layoffs Are a Symptom of Larger Market Changes". I don't believe that the layoffs are temporary but a more permanent trajectory of absolute change.

The industry in general has really shot itself in the foot - like blown off every toe on each foot with a round.

People want entertainment and not preachy woke content parading as entertainment. They don't want their woke virtue signaling actors yelling out about their poor elitist lives.

The audience is now a global one where I watch shows from other countries because I am learning about those unseen world. I watched "Borgen" (Denmark), "Call My Agent" (France) and other shows from S. Korea, Japan, Italy and more.

The production centers shifted due to extremely high (compared to the world) production costs - while the prices on the world market for content dropped due to a saturation of films and TV as well as audience options for other avenues like gaming or watching the #1 channel in the world - Youtube!

Much like everything that is produced, money goes to lower cost and higher profits (especially when the market gets squeezed for profits) and that is virtually anywhere but the US. Why did overseas manufacturing flourish in China and other countries over the last few decades? Cheaper, fast and profitable. Same with filmmaking

VFX has now blurred more and more with AI techniques to provide ways to reduce costs for locations which impact everything from extras to transpo to addl asst directors, etc.,

Paramount was looking for TV episodes from $3.5 to $5M recently, showing that they see opportunity in thrift and not excess. Probably more Taylor Sheridan non-woke material too....
